In honor of Black History Month, Moment Improv wants to empower black business owners and their teams with our deep approach to teambuilding because we know it works.
Today, most of us find ourselves in a world where we are more digitally connected than ever. At the same time, many of us feel we have never been more disconnected as people. But why?
Our current digital reality has brought us together in a way that allows for connection without presence. You can be connected to a meeting without being present at said meeting. To be able to be fully present and in the moment with another human is how ideas are not only shared, but absorbed. So without presence, there is no true communication. It’s by listening and hearing what other people are communicating that partnerships are formed, teams are transformed, and ultimately how we walk away informed. This makes communication and presence essential parts of business and life.
Communication and connection are what Moment Improv Theatre is all about. We teach adults how to become stronger communicators by teaching them how to play again using the lens of improv comedy.
Moment Improv Theatre is the first African American owned improv theatre and training center in the United States. We see the value of communication every single day, and we know that the power of improvisation can be transformative. The artform of improvisation has had many issues, as have many fields, in terms of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I). There have been gatekeepers, naysayers, and elitists that have held many people back from finding success. And although some things are changing, there are still many hurdles all of us have to overcome before we all have a seat at the table.
Moment Improv believes in Black Improv, Black entrepreneurs, and Black led organizations. Moment knows the empowerment that comes from strong communication, presence, and bravery. Stepping into the unknown can be challenging, and it requires agility and fortitude. In improv we are taught to say Yes to our partners, but often times, no one tells us that one of the most important people to say YES to is ourselves. “Yes, I am enough.” “Yes, I have skills.” “Yes, I am the right person for the job.”
It is time for you and your team to step into your power.
In honor of Black History Month and in honor of all African Americans who have helped pave the path towards Black excellence, we want to give back.
Every February during Black History Month, Moment Improv is offering four barrier-free, two hour workshops to four Black business owners and 10 members of their team. These workshops will be provided for free in order to pay-it-forward. These online workshops will be custom designed based on what your team needs and where you believe they are currently at in terms of their communication skills.
Each workshop will be taught by Marcus Sams, the founder of Moment Improv Theatre, and will be delivered at a time that is suitable for you and your team. In total, each of these workshops have a value of around $14,000, but again, we will be providing them at no cost to the selected businesses, because we believe the life/business lessons learned are invaluable.
