Level 5: The Narrative Arc

Course Description:

Most scripted theatre follows a similar narrative structure. In Level 5: The Narrative Arc, you will learn how to improvise a longform narrative show that adheres to the constructs of a classic theatrical play: creating a strong base scene, adding meaningful scenes that support the rising action of the narrative and, most importantly, collectively serving the story.

Students are introduced to the original format, TOTS, and culminates in a 30-minute grad show.

This class runs for 8 consecutive sessions on the same day and time as the first class unless otherwise stated.

What you will learn:

  • The Narrative Arc and how it works
  • Story style and Genre identification
  • How to identify the Major Dramatic Question of a story
  • How to choose and support the main protagonist

  • Tell better stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end
  • Notice more plot holes in your favorite movies and TV shows
